Published 22 December 06 12:45 PM | Michael S. Scherotter

I am pleased to announce the release of MindManager 6 SP2a (build 6.2.399). This is an update to Pro, Basic and Viewer editions.  With this new Service Pack, MM6 will now run on Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007. It also provides usability improvements and resolves known issues, including updates to Microsoft Office integration capabilities.  Help updates are also included in this update.  For a more complete list of issues addressed with the update, please review the release notes.

To install the update, select Help...Check For Updates from MindManager or you can download it from here.

Hi Michael,

After installing MindManager 6 SP2a (build 6.2.399) I noticed that the icon for exporting to Word XP or 2003 has disappeared and only the icon for exporting to Word 2007 appears (I had both in version 6.1).

Exporting to Word 2007 only allows for exporting .docm files (although .all files does appear on the drop-down list) and  without having  Word 2007 installed one needs the Office 2007 conversion pack installed to be able to read these .docm files with Word XP or 2003. Files are converted losing the macro content. The definite version of the conversion package has not been released yet and the beta version will not open files produced by the latest version of Office 2007.

Is it still possible to export to either Word 2007 or XP/2003 with SP2a? If so, could you make available for download the old Word.dll's for those of us who may not want to install Office 2007 (yet !)?

Cheers,

Tom Hodgers

Tom,

I assume that you had installed the Word 2007 Map Editor from the Mindjet Labs as well.  The Word 2007 export in SP2a is different from that and you should be able to save as .doc files from your MindManager instance.  The Word export uses whichever version of Word that is installed on your system.  For example, on my home system, I have Word 2000 installed and I see the icon for Word 2000 and it creates a .doc file.

Sorry to say that only Word 2007 Export appears on my set-up (same for Import from), even though I only have Office XP installed.

Save as .doc does NOT appear as an option on drop-down list of "Save as" files.

Tom,

You are most likely looking the menu items of the Word 2007 Map Editor demonstration add-in from the Mindjet Labs.  To Save as .doc files, select "Microsoft Word Documents (*.doc, *.dot) from the Save As dialog file types.  SP2a still creates .doc files, not a .docm file.

If you are needing any more help with this issue, please send me a private message.

Thanks and have a great new year.

I don't have Vista or Office 2007.  I still have my Office 2003 icons and .doc export facility.

Michael

Was there expected to be any CPU usage improvement for Windows XP and Office 2003 users with this version?  MindManager is idling at 6-7% CPU usage with 7 x 50 topic maps but only the Word, Excel and Web Exports enabled.  Before this version I would have seen 15-25% CPU usage.

So this looks like an improvement and excellent Christmas present.  Thank you.
