1.0.17: Edit MindManager .mmap files that are on Microsoft SharePoint Servers.

  • Version 1.0.17 (1/16/2007)

Background

SharePoint Portal Server and Windows SharePoint Services provide integrated collaboration and communication services for business enterprises.  Part of the collaboration infrastructure is document management which provides the ability to share Office documents in a secure manner.  As shipped, SharePoint is configured to work with Microsoft Office documents created by applications like Microsoft Office Word and Microsoft Office Excel.  For other file types like Mindjet MindManager .mmap files, SharePoint defines a configuration procedure for adding those file types to SharePoint so that users can edit those documents in their native application.  Without this configuration, editing non-Office documents that are on a SharePoint server is difficult.

This integration consists of two components, a server component and a client component, both of which must be installed for the integration to work.

Client Installation
  • Download and install Mindjet MindManager 6 (Trial, Basic, or Pro).
  • Install this client on each desktop that needs to edit MindManager .mmap files.
  • Start MindManager.  To check if the client is installed successfully, open Add-Ins... from the Tools menu.  If Microsoft SharePoint Map Editing is listed and checked then the client is installed correctly.

Requirements:

Revision History:

  • 1/16/2007: Fixed a problem with installer that prevented installation on some systems.
  • 12/14/2006: Updated installer to run on Windows Vista.
  • 10/20/2006: Fixed a bug that was preventing the editing application from being found and starting up.
  • 9/12/2006: Updated to work with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007.

We've been experiencing some intermittent issues with using the "Edit in Mindjet MindManager 6" linkeage through the Shared Documents library. Some users get an 'Error editing MindManager Document" with a message of "The remote server returned an error: 401 unathorized" It works for some users, not for others. Any thoughts?

Any timeframe for the mindmanager 7 client and server utilities for editing mindmaps in SharePoint to be tested rigourously and made available to the public? The website mentions that they are not guaranteed to work perfectly and that you assume no responsibility for errors encountered?

It would be nice if a Mindjet rep would respond to the questions posted regarding MindManager 7 and Sharepoint. There are many of us who would like to be able to use Sharepoint to "version" our maps. Thanks.

Had a look at the dll in reflector, it does let you do basic authentication to the server. It should check and at the last resort ask for credentials.

I am having the same problem as reported on 05-07-2008 by aeonfox, where I get an error message "The document could not be opened for editing. A Windows SharePoint Services compatible applocation could not be found to edit the document." (I am running MM6 Pro with IE7 and Office 2003 on Win XP). What could be causing this? Thanks.
