1.0.4: Edit MindManager .mmap files that are on Microsoft SharePoint Servers.

  • Version 1.0.4

Background

SharePoint Portal Server and Windows SharePoint Services provide integrated collaboration and communication services for business enterprises.  Part of the collaboration infrastructure is document management which provides the ability to share Office documents in a secure manner.  As shipped, SharePoint is configured to work with Microsoft Office documents created by applications like Microsoft Office Word and Microsoft Office Excel.  For other file types like Mindjet MindManager .mmap files, SharePoint defines a configuration procedure for adding those file types to SharePoint so that users can edit those documents in their native application.  Without this configuration, editing non-Office documents that are on a SharePoint server is difficult.

This integration consists of two components, a server component and a client component, both of which must be installed for the integration to work.

Server Installation
  • Download and install this package on a server that has SharePoint.  You can also follow the manual server configuration steps below if you do not want to run the installer.
  • Restart the SharePoint server by running iisreset (from Start...Run...).
  • If the integration is configured correctly, you should see a MindManager icon to the left of each MindManager .mmap file in SharePoint file libraries.  In addition you will also see the option "Edit in Mindjet MindManager 6" in context menu when clicking on the filename of any .mmap file.
Manual Server Configuration

This is performed automatically by the MM6_SharePoint_Server.msi installer.

  • Open the file Local_Drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\60\TEMPLATE\XML\DocIcon.xml or Local_Drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12.0\TEMPLATE\XML\DocIcon.xml
  • Add the following line within the ByExtension element in DocIcon.xml:

<Mapping Key="mmap" Value="MindManager.gif" EditText="Mindjet MindManager 6" OpenControl="MindManager.OpenDocument"/>

  • Save DocIcon.xml
  • Copy the file  MindManager.gif:  to the Local_Drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\60\TEMPLATE\IMAGES or Local_Drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12.0\TEMPLATE\IMAGES directory
  • Restart the SharePoint Server by executing iisreset.

After installaing the server software - Have you experienced any problems for document library users without acces to MindManger? Ie, users only working with MS Office files from the same library/site. Regards/Joakim
